Imperium Jaskini Behemota

SUMMARY
of a poll and a discussion
that took place in the Behemoth's Lair community
(http://heroes.net.pl)
on the topic
"What world for Heroes V?".

Prepared by
Ururam Tururam (ut@heroes.net.pl)

The community of the Behemoth's lair organized a poll and a discussion on
the question " In what world should the story of H5 take place?".
Only the members of the Community were allowed to vote in the poll.
Both members and guests were allowed to express their opinions in the
discussion. The results follow.

There were 35 votes in the poll:
7 (21%) votes for continuation of the story of Heroes IV in its world
12 (35%) votes for a story in Heroes III world after the cataclysm
1 (2%) vote for revealing older parts of the Antagarich history
10 (28%) votes for continuation of H3 story with no world destruction
5 (14%) votes for other worlds (or no matter what world)

There are a few notes that could be written here:

* The percentage of fans who don’t care about the story is small. Among
newbies it will be large… So the background story is a gift for fans rather
than for newcomers.

* There was only one vote (and no posts!) for the H3 world before the
explosions. That means that the fans want the story to go on in one world
or another (or both), nevertheless it should go forward and not reveal
details of old times.

* Most people want to merge the stories of all parts of heroes in the world
of H3 (the second option). The comments backing this option look
very promising.

The discussion was long and exciting. There was a lot of posts (namely
105), but all of them can be categorized into several groups making together
a set of points of view. Such a categorization is shown below:

-----
HEROES IV WORLD; THE STORY CONTINUES

- I see no point of taking the action back. Heroes IV introduced a new
world, let its story continue! The saga should go forward not backward.

- Continuation with possible campaigns about scout sent to the old
destroyed world and new dangers there (the Ancients?).

- I think we should accept what has happened. And don’t cry over spilt
milk. There is a new world and new possibilities. If a dog is dead it will
not rise. And if it will I don’t want such a dog!

- I don’t think the storytelling background is the most important aspect
of the game. Let’s leave it “as is” and go on.

- There was a lot of old history of Axeoth said in the campaigns of TGS
and WoW. Please don’t discard it!

- Continue! The fact that the game of Heroes 4 was worse than Heroes 3
does not mean that the story itself was worse.

- Why to create a new world while the current one is not fully defined and
the old one is destroyed?

-----
HEROES III WORLD; AFTER CATACLYSM

- It could be interesting to arrange meetings and fights between people
who survived the cataclysm on H3 world and the ones who return after
several years to an old yet new world.

- There were ones who survived. When dust falls there is a place for new
alliances and new wars.

- Maybe the explosion has summoned or waken some new forces to the
old world?

- There was a cataclysm and nothing can change it. Let us treat the given
story seriously. But it is not said everything was destroyed. One
continent is not the whole world.

- Postapocaliptic Heroes! I want it!

- I do not imagine the way to do it but the story of Heroes V should
contain something from both worlds.

- The backgrounds of HoMM and M&M series were consistent so far.
The best way to preserve the consistency is the war of the worlds.

-----
HEROES III WORLD; BEFORE CATACLYSM

None

-----
HEROES III WORLD; THERE WAS NO CATACLYSM

- I vote the whole reckoning was only a dream. Now we (and the heroes)
wake up. Antagarich was much better defined than Axeoth. And I want
to forget Heroes 4.

- I want this option but I don’t know how to make it consistent. But I
trust Ubisoft.

- I suggest a time-loop campaign to destroy the swords before they destroyed
the world. Then the action would continue in the old world.

- Let’s merge a dream (a prophetic one!) with the campaign for destroying
the swords not to let the dream fulfill.

- The loss of H4 story is relatively small compared to possibilities of the
old Antagarich.

-----
GENERIC FANTASY WORLD / ANOTHER WORLD / NO MATTER

- I want something entirely new both in the aspect of the story and the game
mechanics!

- For me the story behind is of a marginal value.

- I want a continuation but in much, much later time (100 years or so).
