Imperium Jaskini Behemota

SUMMARY
of a poll and a discussion
that took place in the Behemoth's Lair community
(http://heroes.net.pl)
on the topic
"Heroes V and technofantasy (TF)".

Prepared by
Ururam Tururam (ut@heroes.net.pl)

The community of the Behemoth's lair organized a poll and a discussion on
the question "Do you want a technofantastic castle in (like the Forge) H5?".
Only the members of the Community were allowed to vote in the poll.
Both members and guests were allowed to express their opinions in the
discussion. The results follow.

There were 38 votes in the poll:

4 (10%) votes for a TF castle in the main game.
23 (61%) votes for a TF castle in one of the expansions.
2 (5%) votes “I do not care”.
4 (10%) votes “It depends…”.
5 (14%) votes against adding TF to Heroes.

The majority of the Behemoth’s lair community wants technofantstic
motives - but not in the basic game.

There were 80 posts in the discussion. This means the topic was really hot!
It should be noted that the guests have backed the option „No TF”
much more often that the members of the Community.

The digest follows:

-----
TF IN THE MAIN GAME:

- Units like H4 dragon golem deserve their own castle.

- A few TF units should appear in the main game as neutral ones.
The castle should be a supplement introduced in one of the expansions.

- Yes! But it must be like coming from the Atlantis.

- There was a synthetic race in the Earthlords game. Why not in Heroes?

-----
TF IN AN EXPANSION:

- Two weeks ago I was against. But now: “yes but in an expansion”.
And it has to be done well not to spoil the climate.

- I want in an expansion. If one does not like such things no one forces
him to buy/install such a pack. And I am for some kind of ancient
technologies (like inventions by Heron or Archimedes), and no lasers.

- Technology - yes, but no high-end one.

- Technology is present in the MM world from the beginning. The main
game should remind this to players and prepare them for such motives
(and a castle!) in an expansion.

- I want it, but not in the basic game. When I knew little about the
story background of Heroes I was laughing at Forge. Now I do not.

- In an expansion: yes but the very last one, closing the HoMM V series.

- Yes, but how to make a blaster a comparable weapon with a bow?

- In the main game it could be shocking, an expansion gives the player
a choice.

- Technocrats could appear, but what magic for them? None?

- I like this; the others do not. So the expansion is the best place for such a
castle.

- A few mutants a few robots - I want them.

- Yes! And it should be rusty, rusty!

- And I want two TF castles! Maybe in two expansions. The first like
the H3 Forge - based on the technology of the Ancients. The second
containing some clever technical solutions from various times (Egyptian,
old Chinese, Mayan, Renaissance).

- The game has to progress. I want some TF.

- I was surprised hearing that the Kreegan demons were in fact aliens.
Now I know there is a place for TF in Heroes. But since it is not obvious
For all players, an expansion is the best place for it.

-----
TF - MAY BE IN, MAY BE OUT:

- It sounds like a heresy. It may be an erathian chainsaw massacre.
But I want the Ancients to return.

-----
IT DEPENDS…

- A few units - why not. But I am against a castle like this.

- It would have to be done perfectly, much better than the average rest,
not to spoil the whole game. And no plasma, no lasers, miniguns, rocket
launchers etc.

- It depends on the fact if I can turn it off.

- I want it, but not looking like XXIII century technics, but a technology
of late middle-ages or renaissance.

- Yes but it should not look like the Forge.

- Yes, but the units should be steam-driven.

- It has to fit well the rest of the world. I’d prefer something resembling
the sketches by Leonardo da Vinci.

-----
NO TF IN HEROES:

- No, nothing, absolutely nothing. If there is a real need there could be
a single TF unit but not a castle. And it should be turnable on/off.

- Orcs with lightsabers? No, thanks.

- I want fantasy and only fantasy. And if such a castle appears, the
mapmaker should have a possibility to turn all the technological things
off in the editor for any map.

- There was never a castle like this and the game was OK. Please do
not spoil it.

- I did not want the Forge in H3, I don’t want technics in H5.

- Mutants, lasers, androids, whatchummcallits - they will kill the game.

- No. Only middle-ages + fantasy. Even golems are the step too far.

-Pshaw! And let’s introduce a new skill for heroes: informatics.

- Heroes should be heroes and Starcraft should be starcraft.

- Rambo-Heroes? No! It is something for 13-years old players.
