Imperium Jaskini Behemota

SUMMARY
of a poll and a discussion
that took place in the Behemoth's Lair community
(http://heroes.net.pl)
on the topic
"Economy in Heroes V".

Prepared by
Ururam Tururam (ut@heroes.net.pl)

The community of the Behemoth's lair organized a poll and a discussion on
the question "How much economy should be included in Heroes V?".
Only the members of the Community were allowed to vote in the poll.
Both members and guests were allowed to express their opinions in the
discussion. The results follow.

There were 35 votes in the poll:
2 (5%) votes for as little economy as possible (as in H1)
3 (8%) votes for simple trade only (as in H4)
21 (59%) votes for advanced trade (as in H3)
9 (25%) votes for a lot of new economic threads in H5
1 (3%) votes for making Heroes V an economic game with strategic elements

It can be clearly seen that “A bit more economy than it was in Heroes III” is the
most wanted solution.

There were 44 posts in the discussion. The digest follows:

======

NO ECONOMY:

- I don’t want to see trade in Heroes V. I like the Heroes I solution when the
lack of one resource forces players to search for it desperately.

-----
SIMPLE TRADE ONLY:

- My vote - somewhat more than in Heroes IV but much less than in Heroes III.
Paying 10:1 in H3 was ill.

- Simple trade - yes, but nothing more. No mine improvements, taxes, paying
for already hired armies, an other financial threads.

- No bartering, I want blood! Oh, well, maybe a simple trade is OK.

-----
ADVANCED TRADE:

- The solutions used in Heroes3 were all right. Please do not try to repair a thing
that works well!

- This option is OK. I am strongly against adding more economy. The simpler the
game rules the more playable the game itself.

- I prefer H4 to H3 however the economic aspect of Heroes 3 is much better done
in my opinion. I don’t want more, I don’t want less.

- Not too much economy this is a game of men of war not of trade! But the amount
of trade included in H3 is OK.

- Well, economy is an aspect to strategy. But it should remain just an aspect.

- Financial motives should be just a spice to the game not its basis. So some economy
is necessary, but not too much.

- Not too much, but a few add-ons are advisable. For example after a siege the walls
should not be rebuilt for free.

- Economy in Heroes III is perfect. Please do not touch it.

- Like in H3, but without robbing prices: 10 units for one!

- I like not too much, not too less. The third option is mine.

-----
A LOT OF ECONOMY:

- I want a lot of economy but the strategy should be the top priority of the
game. These aspects should influence each other.

- I’d like to see more buildings in each town (longer buildup) and a few of
standalone structures of economic meaning: banks, merchant guilds, etc.
Letting the player pay for more things and earn money from more sources
would be also fine.

- And I want something more, but it must be perfectly balanced with strategy
and tactics.

- I want a bit more than it was in H3. For example paying gold for feeding
the army, variable prices for resources dependant on mined and used amounts
of each of them etc. But The economy must not be the most important factor
in the game.

- My idea is to add some buildings in towns that use some resources to generate
their effect. They should be switchable: effect on/off. For example such structure
as the shroud of darkness may use sulfur.

- I’d like to see a system close to the one used in “Europa Universalis”.

- Maybe adding new resources (for example 8 in the place of 6) would make
the game more attractive?

H5 AS AN ECONOMIC GAME:

None
