Imperium Jaskini Behemota

SUMMARY
of a poll and a discussion
that took place in the Behemoth's Lair community
(http://heroes.net.pl)
on the topic
"Castles of Heroes V".
Prepared by
Ururam Tururam (ut@heroes.net.pl)
The community of the Behemoth's lair organized a poll and a discussion on
the question "How many castles do you want in the basic version of
Heroes5 (without expansions)? And what castles?”
Only the members of the Community were allowed to vote in the poll.
Both members and guests were allowed to express their opinions in the
discussion. The results follow.
There were 35 votes in the poll:
2 (5%) votes for 5 or less castles
8 (20%) votes for 6 castles
2 (5%) votes for 7 castles
17 (44%) votes for 8 castles
3 (8%) votes for 9 castles
7 (18%) votes for 10 or more castles
All the results are for the basic game (without expansions) only.
-----
There were 76 posts in the discussion. Three major points of view were clearly
visible there:
- Not too much castles, but longer paths of their development.
- 8 castles (most often by Heroes3 fans).
- The more castles the better.
-----
Here is the list of castle types mentioned in the discussion:
- Knights’ castle (mentioned 33 times)
- Elvish castle (mentioned 32 times)
- Barbarian castle (mentioned 31 times)
- Dark castle (mentioned 31 times) [like dungeon in H3 or asylum in H4]
- Undead castle (mentioned 29 times)
- Magicians’ castle (mentioned 27 times)
- Demonic castle (mentioned 24 times)
- Reptilions’ castle (mentioned 15 times)
- Dwarven castle (mentioned 15 times)
- Elemental castle (mentioned 10 times)
- Water castle (on sea) (mentioned 5 times)
- Techno castle (mentioned 4 times)
- Wild beings castle (mentioned twice)
- Dragonish castle (mentioned once)
- Trollish castle (mentioned once)
- Fire castle (mentioned once)
- Bugs (or arachnoids) castle (mentioned once)
- Halflings’ castle (mentioned once)
----
Among the towns listed above there are a few well known ones, but
there are also a few new ones and some of them are really noteworthy:
* Dwarven castle: the dwarves were present in various castles before, but
quite a few of the disputants think they deserve their own town.
* Water (sea) castle - a town on the sea would be something really new!
But perhaps an expansion is better for it than the basic game.
* Bugs/arachnoids - another brand new idea.
-----
The schemes of the castle alignment were mostly H3-like or H4-like.
There were, however, two different approaches to this problem:
* Two-dimensional alignment (good/evil and order/chaos):
- good, order - knights
- good, neutral - elves
- good, chaos - barbarians
- neutral, order - magicians
- neutral, neutral - elementals or technology
- neutral, chaos - orcs
- evil, order - black magic
- evil, neutral - devils, demons
- evil, chaos - undead
* Basing castles on primary sentient races and the beings they keep:
- Men (with griffins etc)
- Elves (with unicorns etc)
- Orcs (with ogres, trolls…)
- Devils (with demons etc)
- Dwarves (with kobolds etc)
- Reptilions
- Halflings
