Imperium Jaskini Behemota

SUMMARY
of a poll and a discussion
that took place in the Behemoth's Lair community
(http://heroes.net.pl)
on the topic
"RPG in Heroes V".
Prepared by
Ururam Tururam (ut@heroes.net.pl)
The community of the Behemoth's lair organized a poll and a discussion on
the question "How much RPG elements should be included in Heroes V?".
Only the members of the Community were allowed to vote in the poll.
Both members and guests were allowed to express their opinions in the
discussion. The results follow.
There were 35 votes in the poll:
1 (2%) vote for absolutely no RPG
3 (9%) votes for simple missions only (like in H3)
22 (63%) votes for advanced quests (like in H4 or WoG)
9 (26%) votes for making the RPG aspect a major aspect of H5 playing
no (0%) votes for making H5 an RPG game with strategic threads
As shown above, the vast majority of the community members wants
the amount of role-playing in Heroes V as it is in Heroes IV or Wake
of Gods, where it is possible both to make a map of pure strategy and
to create a role-playing scenario.
There were 31 posts in the discussion.
The digest follows:
-----
NO RPG
None
-----
SIMPLE QUESTS
- I like the way it has been made in H3. And the campaigns should tell us
about big wars and not about elves in love.
- If one wants to play “from zero to Hero” let him play an RPG game and
not HoMM.
-----
ADVANCED QUESTS
- I like this one. HoMM is not an RPG series but a strategic one,
however without role-playing it may be dull.
- The possibilities offered by H4 or WoG are OK. It is possible to
create a pure RPG scenario, and it is also possible to create a pure
strategic map.
- This is enough. It is not worthy to add or to subtract anything .
This leaves a lot to the invention of the mapmaker.
- Like in H4 but no errors please!
- The third option. *BUT* Let most of the maps and campaigns that come
with the game be almost purely strategic. The mapmakers could use the
possibilities of the engine as they want, but the main game should remain
focused on strategy.
- I think this options suits multiplayer games best and I love them.
- Like in H4/WoG with a few additions like: appearing of new objects on
the map; editing of all accessible objects; possibility of creating names and
looks for artifacts; adding exhausted mines; prioritizing aims for the AI…
- This option gives the broadest range of possibilities to mapmakers and
players.
-----
RPG AS A NECESSARY ASPECT OF H5
- I want more RPG. Heroes IV had a tremendous potential spoiled by
a poor engine. I really want Heroes V to fix it.
- I want heroes V to be a strategy/RPG game where both aspects suit
each other.
- I’d like to see more RPG. But in the map description there should be
a sign with/without RPG (like with/without underground).
- The game is about heroes. So I vote - more RPG! I want to play heroes
and not paper figurines.
- Yeah, let’s call it RPS - Role Playing Strategy!
-----
RPG AS A DOMINANT ASPECT OF H5
None
